The Challenge 🧐

How does a country like Switzerland ensure long-term independence for a critical resource like salt? We explored what it takes to balance sustainability, government policy, and economic foresight over centuries, not just quarters.

Our Experience ⛏️

Our students journeyed deep into the Bex Salt Mines to see history and business in action. We went by train and mining cart through narrow tunnels to explore one of the country’s oldest industrial operations. Inside, we studied firsthand the realities of extraction methods, energy costs, and sustainability challenges, and debated the pros and cons of national self-reliance. This was a hands-on lesson in how policy, history, and business intersect.

The Takeaway 💡

This experience was a powerful case study in Practical Experiential Learning™ (PEL). It taught us to turn raw materials into strategic assets and to ask tough questions about innovation and long-term planning. By engaging with these real-world challenges, students developed the critical thinking skills needed to be future leaders who can navigate complex business environments.
